Karen Faye Paine-english Obituary (1956 - 2015)

Graduation Year Class of 1974
Date of Birth Jun 20, 1956
Date of Passing Oct 23, 2015
About On Friday morning, October 23, 2015, my beloved wife, Karen Paine English of Roanoke, rose, as if on the wings of dawn, and was received by Lord Jesus Christ, her savior and strength.

Karen was born on July 20, 1956 to Phyllis Murr Paine of Lebanon and the late Robert W. Paine. She graduated from Annville Cleona High School in 1974, she then attended the University of Pennsylvania where in 1978 she received her BSN. Always wishing to be a better nurse, she continuously sought ways to improve her knowledge and in 1990 received her MSN from the University of Delaware.

Karen was employed in oncology nursing at University Hospital, Hershey Medical Center from 1978 until 1991, when she came to Lewis-Gale Medical Center as a clinical nurse specialist in oncology.

Karen's devotion to her patients and profession was remarkable. She was always available to go where she perceived a need and there are many persons today who will remember her expertise and limitless compassion. She knew no such thing as a workweek of only 40 hours.

Karen was devoted to her parents. She was constantly concerned for their well-being, returned home frequently and consequently stayed closely connected to them as long as she could.

Karen is survived by her husband, Hugh; son-in-law Harris English of Deland, Florida; brothers, Jeffery husband of Stephanie Paine of Enhaut and Richard husband of Kristen of Lebanon; several nieces and nephews, including two very special nieces, Alexandria Paine of Lebanon, Pa., and Alisha Miller of Havertown, Pa.

In recent years Karen faced a monumental health challenge. During those years, as her world and acquaintances fell away, she became even more devoted to her parents and filled her time in trying to help others as her condition allowed. She never complained and demonstrated exceptional courage.

Words cannot adequately express my gratitude to all of the staff at Woodhaven Nursing Home, Bedford County, Virginia. They exceeded all expectations in care, compassion, skill, sincerity, and true devotion to Karen.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 31, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1500 Quentin Road, Lebanon, PA 17042. Interment will follow in Gingrich Mennonite Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gingrich Mennonite Church Cemetery Fund, C/0 Les Frey, Treasurer, 100 Forney Road, Lebanon, PA 17042 in her memory.
