| About | Age 86, of Ohio Twp. on March 25, 2008. Margaret L. "Peg" Markel; born in Cranberry Twp. July 21, 1921 to the late Carl H. and Dorothy Markel. A graduate of Bellevue High School and Slippery Rock University and former elementary physical education teacher and coach of the men's varsity golf team for the Avonworth School District from where she retired in 1977. She was known for her sense of humor and love of photography (and frequently combined the two). Peg was an avid photographer who could always be counted on to take photos at any gathering of friends and family. She was actively involved in the First Presbyterian Church downtown where she had been a member all her life. Peg was also responsible for a photo journal on its long history. She was an active member of the community and, during her teaching years, was very involved in after school activities for teens. Peg was a good friend and teacher to many and will be missed greatly. Miss Markel was also preceded in death by a brother Carl H. Markel; she is survived by a niece; Ellen L. Markel of McCandless; 2 nephews; John A. of Ross Twp. and Daniel C. Markel of Pearland, TX; also one grand nephew; Noah Markel. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008, 2 PM at the McDONALD-LINN FUNERAL HOME, INC. 529 California Ave. Avalon.
