About David E. Gossert, 49, of 1018 Swamp Fox Road, Chambersburg, PA, died unexpectedly at 8:34 AM Friday, May 1, 2009 in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital. Born October 28, 1959 in Chambersburg, he was a son of Wallace W. Gossert of Chambersburg and the late Myrtle Kline Gossert. David was a 1978 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and a 1979 graduate of the Repert Auction School in Decatur, IN. A self-employed auctioneer for more than 30 years, he mentored under and was employed by the late Ralph Horst for many years. He also owned and operated a tent business. He was a member of New Franklin Assembly of God where he was active in many church activities. David was a member of the National Auctioneer's Association, a life member of the New Franklin Volunteer Fire Company, and was a member and was currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Mercersburg Sportsman's Association. His other memberships include the Kettle Creek Sportsman's Association, the Mountain Lodge Hunting Club in Clinton County, and the Cumberland Valley Antique Engine Association. He enjoyed hunting, cookouts, spending time with his family, and volunteering his time and talents with many community organizations.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Lorna Fellers Gossert, whom he married in 1984; three children, David R. and wife Julie, Amanda M., and Steven W. Gossert, all of Chambersburg; a granddaughter, Haylie Gossert of Chambersburg; three brothers, John R. Gossert and wife Joyce of Chambersburg, Wally W. Gossert and wife Christine of Chambersburg, and Timothy L. Gossert and wife Brenda of Fayetteville; a sister, Pauline Burkett and husband Thomas of Chambersburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, May 5, 2009 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. William Dick will officiate. Interment will follow in Fetterhoff Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 PM Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the funeral home.
