WELLSVILLE - Herbert M. "Butch" Christian, 68, entered into Heaven on Friday (Dec. 14, 2012) at home following a lengthy illness, surrounded by family.Mr. Christian was born on Nov. 2, 1944, in New Berlin to Gaylord and Jane H. (Salisbury) Christian. He was a 1964 graduate of Coudersport (Pa.) High School. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard of Pennsylvania from 1965 to 1971. On April 11, 1970, he married Debra E. Clayson, who survives.Herb worked as a meat cutter for Market Basket at Shinglehouse, Pa., Wellsville, Andover and Bolivar locations for 41 years. He drove truck for Southern Tier Express and Baldwin Forest Products for eight years until his retirement in 2008.In addition to his wife, Butch is survived by two daughters, Sonya (Lance) Wolfrom of Lockhaven, Pa. and Nichole (Len) Woltz of Akron; a son, Shane (Kristy) Christian of Wellsville; two sisters, Mary Herasymiuk of New Orleans, La. and Janice Sallade of Roulette, Pa.; two brothers, Gaylord (Linda) Christian of Bridgewater, Va. and Carl (Elaine) Christian of Dayton, Va.; seven grandchildren, Taylor Wolfrom, Kara Wolfrom, Brady Wolfrom, Caitlynn Burns, Jacob Burns, Jordan Christian and Andrew Christian; two step-grandchildren, Raelyn Woltz and Hanna Woltz; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers-in-law, Nestor Herasymiuk, James Sallade and Ike Clayson; one sister-in-law, Anita Christian; and a nephew, Kevin Vossler.Butch was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed woodworking. He was a diehard NASCAR fan, especially of Dale Earnhardt, both Sr. and Jr., and he always cheered for the Buffalo Bills. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wellsville. He had many pleasures, but it was his love for family and friends and service to his Lord that guided his life.Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church of Wellsville with the Rev. Stan Scoville officiating.
