| About | Carl Murphy, Jr., son of the late Carl Murphy Sr. and the late Florence (Mitchell) Murphy-Watkins, was born on Saturday, September 18, 1954, in Washington, D.C. Affectionately known as “The Law,” Carl moved with his family to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1962, where he quickly made an impact on everyone he met. From a young age, he showed a passion for sports and a love for life that would define him for years to come. Carl was educated in the Harrisburg School District, where he began his legendary football career as a running back. His talent and determination on the field earned him recognition and respect, culminating in his graduation from Harrisburg High School. He went on to attend Cheyney University, where he continued to pursue his love for football and had the unforgettable opportunity to play alongside greats, including Tony Dorsett. Carl’s athletic spirit extended beyond football; he had a deep love for basketball and even founded a traveling league called Murphy’s Law. Rooted in his beloved Uptown community, the league became more than just a team—it was a family. Carl brought together peers who loved the game, offering them a space to compete, talk a little trash, and connect, all while celebrating the sport. Through Murphy’s Law, he created a legacy that reflected his dedication to sports, camaraderie, and community. Full of life and fun, Carl’s vibrant personality, quick wit, and undeniable charm were matched only by his charismatic presence and lion’s heart. He lived life fully and unapologetically, never shying away from taking risks or embracing adventure. Whether gathered around the table with family, cracking jokes that had everyone in stitches, or cheering passionately for his beloved Dallas Cowboys, Carl knew how to make every moment count. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—watching “Sanford and Son” reruns, savoring a good meal, and surrounding himself with the people he loved most. Known as the life of the party, his laughter was infectious, his stories unforgettable, and his humor had a way of brightening even the darkest days. On Monday, August 18, 2025, Carl Murphy Jr. departed this life at seventy years of age. Along with his parents, Carl was preceded in death by loved ones who have gone before him. Carl’s light will continue to shine in the hearts of his loving companion, Sharon Washington; his children, Kisha Simmons, Elijah Murphy, Carl Murphy III, and Stephanie Jones; his brothers, Antonina Murphy (Kau) and Avilla Murphy; his sister, Patricia Towers; his 23 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, whom he adored and referred to as “no whammies!”; his honorary son and daughter, Darren Jenkins (Angela), Kyshia Jackson, and Cherrie Eubanks; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends. |
