Events | Helen Wilson Burnett, 66, met eternal rest on October 25, 2021, at her residence in Asbury Solomons Senior Care in Solomons, Maryland. Helen was born in Havre De Grace, Maryland to the late John and Jessie Wilson. She graduated from John Harris High School, Harrisburg, PA in 1972 where she studied the violin and was co- captain of the cheerleading squad. She then attended Fisk University in Nashville, TN for 3 years and later graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1978 with a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Therapy. It was in college where Helen found her love of modern dance and theatre. It has been said that the spotlight followed Helen; her effervescent personality made her the star of every room she entered. In 1987, Helen Burnett joined a long line of Wilson women in the illustrious sisterhood of community service as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Helen enjoyed working with children in the Wilmington, DE and Flemingsburg, KY school systems as a speech pathologist for several years before she began her career with the State of Kentucky. She retired as an Inspector from the Office of the Inspector General of the State of Kentucky. A tender- hearted soul, Helen spent her days doing the things she loved most: caring for her beloved pets, gardening, and listening to music. Helen lived life to the fullest and most of all loved her family. Helen is reunited with her parents, John and Jessie Wilson; and two uncles, Leonidas Wilson and Milton Wilson. She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Brooks Burnett; two sisters, Sharon Merrick and Jessica Mack; two nephews, Justin Merrick and Marcus Mack; one niece, Olivia Merrick; and her Aunt Mareea Wilson along with a host of family and friends. |
