About | Monica Leigh Blackston Totton, 47, of Harrisburg, peacefully transitioned into eternity on Monday, February 20, 2017 in Harrisburg. She was born in Harrisburg, daughter of Mark and Marsha (Byrd) Blackston, a 1987 graduate of Harrisburg High, received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Criminal Justice from Indiana University of PA, an Educational Psychology PhD Candidate, ABD with Walden University, a former employee of the Program for Female Offenders, PA Human Relations Commission and later an MST with PA Counseling Services. Monica was a member of Trinity Church of God, where she taught Sunday School & VBS and started the RENEW Women's Book Ministry. In the community, she was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Harrisburg Alumnae Chapter and in her leisure, she enjoyed family gatherings, shopping, dancing, music and cheering for the Harrisburg High Cougars and the Philadelphia Eagles. Monica was preceded in death and joyfully greeted by her son, Maliq Bailey; her paternal grandparents, Aaron and Matilda (Green) Blackston and her maternal grandparents, Samuel and Agnes (Waters) Byrd. She leaves to celebrate her life and her love, her husband, Lamont Totton; her daughter, Jada Bailey; her parents, Mark and Marsha Blackston, her brother, Marcus (Lisa); her sister/cousins, Autumn, Summer, Samara, Aynyess, Dawn and Michelle; her niece, Atoni Lynn; her closely knit aunts, Stephanie and Samette; her godmother, Elizabeth Clark-Lewis; her Yorkie, Devin and a host of other relatives and friends. Her life will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 28 at 11:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 2339 N. 6th St. with viewing 10 until 11 a.m. and burial in Paxtang Cemetery.
