About Barry J. Newcomer, of Paupack, passed away Thursday morning following a hard-fought and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, LuAnn Seeley Newcomer, the couple were high school sweethearts and had been married for 36 years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Willard and Vera Corey Newcomer. Barry was self-employed as a plumbing and heating contractor for over 35 years and an owner of Paupack Hills Golf Course. Barry was a graduate of Wallenpaupack Area High School, where he was a three sport varsity athlete and was proud to have played on the first football team in school history.
He graduated from Williamsport Area Community College.
Barry was a beloved husband and father whose greatest enjoyment in life was his family and specifically his most recent role of Grandpa. He was a dedicated lifetime member of the Tafton Fire Company, where he was a former president, current trustee and hard working fixture at their Pancake Breakfast and the "World Famous" Tafton Outing. He was a member of the Hemlock Grove United Methodist Church.
Barry enjoyed football, especially Penn State and the Dallas Cowboys, golf, hunting, coffee mornings at the Country Store, and talking to anyone… about anything!
The family would like to thank the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dr. Lisa Thomas, and the staff of Hematology and Oncology of Northeast PA, Dr. Madhava Baikadi and NROC Staff, Dr. J. Robert Ramey of Delta Medix, and Dr. Michael Peterson for the kind and compassionate care given to Barry and his family.
Also surviving, two daughters, Amy Newcomer Beilman and husband Scott, Tafton; Stephanie Newcomer Schuman and husband Kyle, Honesdale; Granddaughters Eleanor "Ellie" Beilman; Hailey Schuman; Siblings Barbara Shepard, Seaford, DE; Susan and Manuel Arzamendi, Swanton, VT; Sharon and Bill McLaughlin, Virginia Beach, VA; Paul Newcomer, Newfoundland, PA; In-Laws Donald and Bertha Seeley, Tafton; Donald and Mary Seeley, Tafton; Sandra Riddle, Dickson, TN; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael "Mickey" Newcomer.
The funeral will be Monday at noon in the Hemlock Grove United Methodist Church, 491 Roemerville Road, Greentown, PA 18426 with services by Rev. Allison Grove, Pastor. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tafton. Friends may call on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service time.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Frey-Fetsock Funeral Home, Inc., 201 Route 191, Village of LaAnna, South Sterling, PA 18460.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tafton Fire Company, P.O. Box 5, Tafton, PA 18464.
