About | Emily Jane Petras Smith, 78, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully at her home July 27, 2015, surrounded by her loved ones. After being diagnosed with lung cancer in May, she spent the short time she had left enjoying her family, friends, Jack her dog, and reading books. She chose to leave the world on her own terms, with dignity and grace. She was the "best mom ever" as well as an awesome grandma, sister and friend. She was born Oct. 2, 1936, in Smithton, the daughter of the late Louis and Justina Pravlik Petras. She attended South Huntington High School (now Yough), and graduated from Ramsay High School (now Mt. Pleasant Area Joint High School). Following graduation she moved to Washington, D.C., and worked for various government agencies. That is where she met the love of her life, John "Jack" Smith, with whom she is now reunited. She is survived by three daughters, Debbie, Cindy and Paula of Tucson, Ariz.; son, John of the state of Washington; a grandson, Danny of South Carolina; three sisters, Delores (Don) McKnight of Washington, Pa., Lucille (Richard) Senko of Monessen, and Irene Petras of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Louis; and a sister and brother in infancy. Emily was a member Our Mother of Sorrows in Tuscon, Ariz., and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Society. Funeral services were held at Our Mother of Sorrows, in Tucson, Ariz.
