About | John A. "Jack" Savinski, 70, of West Newton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Feb. 28, 1947, in Greensburg, a son of Naomi Free Savinski, of Jeannette, and the late Anthony J. Savinski. Prior to his retirement, Jack was a band teacher for the Yough School District for 38 years. Jack also was a former volunteer fireman for Herminie Station No. 15 for more than 30 years, and for the last several years he was known as "Driver John" for the residents of the Point Pleasant Retirement Community in North Versailles. Jack was a member of St. Edward Parish in Herminie and the church's Resurrection Choir. He was also a member of the Mohawk Fireman's Association in Westmoreland County. Jack played in the Jeannette Community Band and the Mt. Pleasant Fireman's Band. In addition to his father, Jack was predeceased by a brother-in-law, James Ridinger. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Rhoads Savinski; daughters, Melissa McWIlliams and husband Dan, and Susan Martin and husband Tom, all of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Tyler, Ava and T.J.; a sister, Kathleen Ridinger, of Monroeville; a brother, Kenneth "Ken" Savinski, of New York City, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Parish, with Father Joseph E. Bonafed as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
