About | Henry "Clark" Duncan Jr., 58, of Arcadia, passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, in Cape Girardeau. He was born Feb. 19, 1952, in Oceanside, CA, the son of Chaplain Henry Clark and Esta Lee (Keele) Duncan Sr. On Aug. 14, 1982, he was united in marriage to Joan Zellie Comer, who survives. To this union was born a daughter, Jessica Duncan of St. Louis. Also surviving is a sister, Ann Cohrs, of Silver Springs, VA, as well as a host of other relatives and many, many friends. In 1974, Clark received his master's degree in hospital administration from Duke University. He served as hospital administrator at Union City Memorial Hospital in Indiana, and assistant administrator in Reidsville, NC, and at Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, VA. In 1993, Clark began his tenure as Arcadia Valley Hospital administrator. He served as Arcadia Valley Chamber of Commerce president from 1995-96. In 1998, he was honored as "Man of the Year" by The Mountain Echo. He was an original member of the steering committee for the RISE/EXCEL leadership program. Clark was also a member of the Our Town Tomorrow committee, an original member of the Iron County Action Plan Committee, the Iron County Community Health Coalition Committee and the Committee to Preserve and Protect the Pilot Knob Battlefield. He worked many hours as Project Acorn treasurer and campaign committee member and assisted with the passage of the school bond issue. Clark also helped with the local Chamber of Commerce fireworks display, was a fine arts band booster, AV Key Communicator and a member of the Industrial Board which helped bring ALCO to the Valley. In 2001 he began working at Washington County Memorial Hospital until his retirement three years ago. Most recently, he had served on the Battle of Pilot Knob Reenactment Steering Committee, worked with the Chamber's Tourism Committee to get a train to stop in Arcadia and assisted in obtaining a caboose for the Whistle Junction Visitors Center/Iron County Historical Society Museum. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Bryson Funeral Home with the Rev. Katherine Hillequest officiating. |
