About | NEWPORT - James G. "Jake" Furtado, 59, of Newport, RI, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at home. Born May 12, 1957, Jimmy was the son of Alberta Furtado of Middletown and the late Francis Furtado. Following in the footsteps of his father and many uncles, Jimmy entered the construction business after his graduation from Middletown High School in 1975. He eventually founded his own contracting business, JJ Furtado Construction Company, and he worked until his dying day. Jimmy prevailed over a life fraught with challenges, beginning with his being burned in a childhood accident at age 8. Suffering many health issues over the years, he never failed to smile and joke, and won many over with his larger than life personality. In addition to his mother, Jimmy leaves his siblings, Ken Furtado (Jonathan Rogers) of Phoenix, AZ; Christine Kirchner (David) of Middletown; and Stephen Furtado (Catherine) of Middletown. He leaves 9 nieces and nephews and their spouses, and 13 1/2 great-nephews and nieces. He was especially fond of the little ones, and they, in turn, worshipped him and his endless supply of M & M's. Jimmy Jake shared a special bond with his fellow friends of Bill. He will be missed by them and countless other friends and family members. |
