About | Marie Rita (Sandonato) Crandall, 58, of Canton, MA, passed away on December 24, 2018 at Mass General Hospital in Boston. She was the wife of Michael Crandall for 37 years. Marie was born in Newport, RI to Joseph Sandonato and Gina (D'Eramo) Sandonato. She grew up in Middletown, graduated Middletown High School in 1978, and received her degree in French and Psychology from Emmanuel College in Boston. During her time at Emmanuel, she did a semester abroad in Italy. She began her teaching career at the Brockton Christian High School. After teaching at Brockton Christian High School, Marie and Michael moved to Germany as members of the Summer Institute of Linguistics and Wycliffe Bible Translators. For 15 years, she and Michael lived in Germany where they did advanced field work in the Persian related language called Zaza. During this time, she enrolled at Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany where she earned her Master’s Degree in Linguistics. Over the years of this education, she became fluent in six different languages. Marie and Michael returned to the US and the classroom to teach at The Stony Brook School, a Jr. and Sr. High School in Stony Brook, Long Island. She was a dorm parent and French teacher at Stony Brook School for 11 years. Five years ago, Marie took a position at Boston Trinity Academy as a French teacher and Foreign Language Department Chair. |
