About | Paul Craig Pavis had an artist's dream job: He designed floats, sound stages and marketing props for Universal Studios Escape. Pavis of Windermere, the tourist attraction's art and design director for nearly two years, died Friday, February 4th, of cancer. He was 47. His handiwork included the 35-foot champagne glasses used outside the Portofino Bay Hotel during its grand opening last year, the 40-foot metal Christmas trees at City Walk and the multithemed holiday tree at Islands of Adventure. And he left his artistic stamp on Universal's Halloween Horror Nights in October, the Mardi Gras parade floats last February and the sound stage for The Mummy film exhibit.
