About Ronald Eugene Madison, 82, of Warwick, RI, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, at Kent County Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born on June 5, 1943, he was the son of the late Roberta E. Madison and the late Eugene Madison. A lifelong Rhode Islander, Ronald graduated from South Kingstown High School in 1961 and graduated from Roger Williams College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Criminal Justice.

Ronald proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from September 1965 to October 1967 before beginning a distinguished career in law enforcement. In November 1971, he joined the Rhode Island State Police, where he served with honor and integrity until his retirement in January 1995. At the time of his retirement, Ronald was recognized as the first career African-American State Police officer, a trailblazer whose 23 years of dedicated service left a lasting impact on the department and the community.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ronald will be remembered for his resilience, revered leadership qualities and love of country, his love of golf, his passion for watching sports, and the joy he found in spending time with his two beloved grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ronald is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy (Jordan) Madison; his son, Garret Madison of Swansea, MA, and his wife, Cara (Mattera), and their children, Garret Jr. and Mia Madison of New Bedford, MA; his daughter, Karen Madison of Greenbelt, MD; and his brother, Roy Madison of Warwick, RI. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will cherish his memory.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at AVERY-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI. A Celebration of Life service will follow on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 12:00 noon at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Wallace Hazard. Interment will take place privately at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ronald’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjudes.org.

Ronald will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy of service, strength, and love will live on in all who knew him.
