About | His obituary read: Miles Thomas DeCotiis was born in Madison, Wisconsin on January 12, 1971 to Sue Chapin DeCotiis and Tom DeCotiis. Miles life ended in an auto accident May 9, 2008 in Thornton, Colorado. Miles grew up in Ithaca and Jacksonville, NY, enjoying the wide variety of activities offered in this area. As a child he thrived participating in dance, music, theatre, sports and outdoor-nature adventures such as Outward Bound. As an adult he pursued a life that kept him in touch with the beauty of nature and the thrill of backcountry snowboard-ing, river rafting and hiking. His love of music was also a powerful source of inspiration, comfort and joy. He earned a B.A. in Sociology/Human Services from Fort Lewis College, Durango, CO and was exploring options for graduate study at the time of his death. What a joyous man! Miles was passionately loved; his boyish charm inspired playful affection from his family and friends. His wonderful sense of humor, sensitive presence, and kind-hearted, gentle spirit was a gift to all who knew him. Miles will be deeply missed by his mother, Sue Chapin DeCotiis of Jacksonville; father and step-mother, Tom and Marta Erhard DeCotiis of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Meredith DeCotiis Szypula, brother-in-law, John Szypula and niece and nephew, Aine Lucia and Lucas of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as relatives in San Diego, CA: uncle, Dick Chapin; aunt and uncle, Toncha and Jim Campbell; cousins, Tamara, Kimberly and Jimmy; and Grandpa Al and Julie DeCotiis. A memorial service was held Saturday, June 28 at 2:00 PM at the Church of the Epiphany, 11 Elm Street, Trumans-burg, NY.
