About | Sharon Smith, age 66, of Sioux Falls, died Thursday, May 20, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. Sharon was born in Toledo, Washington on Sept. 8, 1937, and graduated from Huron High School and attended Huron College. She married Robert G. Smith on June 9, 1956. She worked nearly 30 years in the banking business for various banks. She taught many real estate classes throughout the community and also was an AIB teacher. She sold property for a land development company in several southern states as well as Illinois. She started the Chapter of American Liver Foundation in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1984 and founded the SETS (Sioux Empire Transplant Support) group in Sioux Falls in 1996. She received a liver transplant on March 9, 1995 and has promoted organ donation, has been a volunteer for Life Source and has spoken in and around the community for many years. She was a current member of SETS, elder at First Presbyterian Church, past Downtown Sioux Falls Lions Club, Beta Sigma Phi, BPW, Charter Board of Directors of "Our Home, Inc.", Huron, SD, Big Brothers-Big Sisters and YWCA, director, National Kidney Foundation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Smith and her father, Harold Winegar. Grateful for having shared her life are her mother, Mable Winegar, Huron, SD; two sons, Roger (Wanita) Smith and their children, Mitchell and Andrew, of Sioux Falls, Roben (Julie Ann) Smith and their children, Jennifer, Wayne, Bobbi Jean and Brian, all of Forks, WA; one daughter, Kim Johnson and her children, Ellen and Sam Lang of Sioux Falls; two brothers, Bob and Ann Winegar of Walker, MN and Jim and Donna Winegar of Gaylord, MN; a special friend and cousin, Kenneth Miller and Marilyn Pollock; and many nieces and nephews. Sharon was laid to rest at Restlawn Cemetery in Huron, SD. |
