About | John Paul Baugues Jr. of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on December 20, 2024. John was a man of determination and passion, who made an impression on everyone he met. Born in Madison, West Virginia, John spent his early years in Bridgepoint, West Virginia before moving to Knoxville in his teen years. He attended Bearden High School and later, the University of Tennessee. John followed in the footsteps of his father, John Baugues Sr., as a driven entrepreneur in the coal business. John’s adventurous spirit shone through his love of travel - navigating like a local in each new city or finding a close friend in every country. No matter how far he traveled - he remained a proud advocate of West Virginia, Tennessee, and greater Appalachia. A lifelong sports fan, he delighted in cheering for the Volunteers and the West Virginia Mountaineers. John was a storyteller at heart who brought laughter to those around him. His love of history was infectious, leaving a lasting impression on all who listened. John is survived by his partner, patty dougherty, son, Jay Baugues, daughter, Adele Baugues Wiedemann, his granddaughters, Ella Baugues, Adeline Baugues, and Joan Wiedemann, along with countless friends and family who will miss his humor, wisdom, and company. A celebration and toast to John’s life will be held at Clancy’s Tavern downtown. Friends and family are invited to join us in honoring his memory and the many unique ways he touched our lives. John Paul Baugues Jr. will be remembered as a man with an indomitable spirit, a captivating storyteller, and a life lived on his own terms.
