About | David died during our Freshman year of leukemia (a type I believe now to be treatable). Like Margaret Holcomb, I have missed him my entire life. David, too, was so full of life and so much fun. I will never forget being one of a few classmates/friends who visited him at St Jude Hospital in Memphis. We could only see him through a window in his room. I remember Billy Roy Hart and Carthel Smith being there. I also remember how Doc Weatherly held onto a group of us at the Lexington Cemetary the day David was burried. We huddled there, and wept together. Not many men of his generation would have done this. Doc was a very special man. I had the privelege of getting to know him better when I lived in Lexington from 1994 to 2005. His experience of WWII was so incredible. A relative of his from Jackson recorded some of them, I believe (Ann McMillan Harms). Until Heaven, David, here's to you. |
