About Services for Rufus Manley McGuffey, III, 63, Glen Rose, formerly of Athens, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jeremy Jackson Blackwell officiating.

Burial with honors under the auspices of the U.S. Marine Corps will follow at Athens Cemetery.

Mr. McGuffey died Jan. 25, 2011 in a Fort Worth Hospital.

He was born Nov. 27, 1947 in Jacksonville to the late Rufus Manley McGuffey, Jr. and Billy Jack Griffith McGuffey. Following graduation from Athens High School in 1966, Rufus attended Henderson County Junior College. He later enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served in Vietnam. He was recipient of the Purple Heart Medal and Bronze Star Medal.

Rufus formerly lived in Granbury 15 years, and has resided in Glen Rose the past 15 years. He was a real estate agent most of his life, had a love for the outdoors, enjoying all sports, and was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years Mary McGuffey, Glen Rose; sons Rufus Manley McGuffey IV and Melinda, Murchison, Robert Boyd McGuffey, Malakoff, Ryan Douglas McGuffey, Malakoff; sister Roseann Mauldin, Conroe; grandchildren Grady, Cotey and Remington McGuffey.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Whright, Lyndon B. Johnson, Robert Williford, Chance McGuffey Bandy, Jason Broussard, John Delbert Chasteen.

Honorary pallbearers include John Kay, John Carter, Frelson "Gene" Phillips, James Edward Allgood, Roland Allgood, Robert Gray, Bobby Wendell, Garry Zane Luker and Al Therrien.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
