About Kevin Wayne Dugat, USN, was born Sept. 19, 1979 and died Jan. 2, 2007.

A native of Houston, Texas, he joined the US Navy in 1998 as a submariner. In basic training he received the Navy League Award for Excellence. After completing Nuclear Power Training, in Charleston, S.C., as an electronics technician, he was stationed in Bremerton, Wash. as a member of the USS Michigan. While stationed, he received two Navy Achievement Medals.

From Washington, he was transferred back to Charleston to become an instructor at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command. Additionally, he received the Navy Humanitarian Award for his work in Mississippi during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Recently, he was married and preparing to be re-stationed back in Washington with his new wife.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Tammy Star Dugat of Charleston, S.C.; son, Ryan James Dugat of Bremerton, Wash.; parents, Jerry and Melanie Dugat of Houston, and Rebecca and Marty Coble, of San Augustine, Texas; and grandmothers, Jean Ford and Tessa Hodges, both of Houston.

He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Karen and Alan Ellis, Dusty and Marcie Sheffield, Chris and Becky Sheffield, and Kim and Edgar Ramos; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Services were held Jan. 8, 2007 at St. Timothy's United Methodist Church, 8787 North Houston Rosslyn, at 12:30 p.m., with internment following at Houston National Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Canon Funeral Home, Waller, Texas.
