About | Dennis R. Hunt, age 70, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2018 at his home in Belle Vernon, Pa. He was the son of Audrey Hunt and the late Harold Hunt, former residents of California PA. Dennis was a 1965 graduate of California High School and attended Salem College prior to entering the US Army in 1967. He spent twenty-two years in the army serving overseas at various military bases in Germany and at Ft Bliss, Texas where he resided upon his retirement and continued to raise his family. After completing his teacher certification at the University of Texas (UTEP) he taught at Del Valle High School in El Paso teaching government, economics and world history, subjects he was passionate about. There he was an active faculty member sponsoring student activities, chairing his department and the school improvement team while serving as the football statistician. Dennis enjoyed his military career and the traveling opportunities it afforded him and continued to voraciously read military history as a hobby throughout his life, rereading hundreds of novels while battling cancer these past five years. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Steelers fan wherever he lived, always anticipating the Cowboy/ Steeler games and recruiting his students as Steeler fans. After retiring from teaching Dennis moved back to his boyhood home in PA to help care for family. Aside from work, he enjoyed the theatre, cars, carpentry, and time spent with his family and grandchildren. Dennis was married to Ginny Hunt (Hopko) for 45 years and had a son Ryan (deceased), a brother Darryl, (deceased) and three grandchildren, Preston, Ethan and Jaaziah, whom he loved dearly. Attending grandchildren’s sporting events and traveling to Texas, Alaska, Florida, and the beach with his grandchildren was the highlight of his retirement years.
