About SPRINGDALE AR (AP) Five Fort Worth residents— 4 World Life Service Life Ins Co. V-P’s and the wife of a physician—Dr Robert L Barrett --died Tuesday when a private airplane exploded and crashed. The victims were Nancy (Sunkel) Barrett, wife of Dr. Robert L Barrett and pilot of the twin-engine Piper Navajo, Jimmy Kenneth Fulkerson, 35, James L Ward Jr, 35, Fabe Ingram, 42, and Reed H Yowell, 34. The plane exploded over the northeast part of Springdale, at 5:05 pm, investigators said. The craft was en route to St Louis, then Chicago where the excuetives were to attend a business meeting. Nancy, who held a multi-engine instrument flight pilot’s rating, was flying the plane as a charter for the World Service Life officials. Springdale Police Chief Bob Berry said about 50 persons in nearby residential area gave investigators eyewitness accounts of the crash. “We’ve got a stack of paper that says the same thing,” Berry said. “They all said they heard what sounded like thunder and then when they looked up, they saw the plane above them fly into pieces about 500 to 1,000 feet in the air.” Two of the victims fell from the craft as it exploded, and the other three remained in the wreckage, which spread over a wide area on impact, Berry said. He said the main portion of the wreckage landed 100 yards from some of the residences near the intersection of U S 71 And Arkansas 264 close to the Washington-Benton CO line All aboard were dead at the scene. No one on the ground was injured. The bodies were taken to Callison Funeral Home at Rogers, 10 miles north of here and bodies were flown to Fort Worth.
