Bobby Jack Hickey Jr., 65, died Nov. 30, 2011, at the Home of the Brave Community Living Center in the VA Hospital, Dallas, from complications from lung cancer.. Service is 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at First Christian Church, N.W. 6th Street, in Mineral Wells with burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home.. Bobby Jack was born Oct. 11, 1946. He graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1964 and attended Sewanee Military Academy, Tyler Junior College, Texas University at Austin and Weatherford Junior College, graduating with an associate's degree in Business.. Bobby Jack served three years in the United States Marine Corps, from 1966-1969. Bobby received the prestigious "Leatherneck Award" for his outstanding performances while in training. His duty stations included Barstow, Calif., Portsmouth, N.H. (Naval Disciplinary Command) and Okinawa, Japan (Intelligence Division) while holding various top secret clearances. Bobby Jack was also a Lifetime AmVets member.. He lived most of his life in the Mineral Wells area, and spent a lot of time pursuing his passion of playing golf at Holiday Hills Country Club with his many friends. Bobby was a member of the Mineral Wells High School golf teams, 1963-64, that won district titles both years.. He is survived by his three children, Tamara Blanche Austin (husband Bill), of Scottsdale, Ariz., Tyson Hickey, of Naguna Niguel, Calif., and Trey Hickey (wife Devan), of Seal Beach, Calif.; his mother, Marilyn Bell, of Mineral Wells; sister, Jill Moore, of Houston; brother, Jeff Hickey (wife Charlotte), of Dallas; grandchildren, Zander Morgan, Evan Hickey and Jayden Hickey; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.. He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Jack Hickey, and his former wife, Karen Lee Hickey.. The family wants to thank Jim and Neda Vines and Bob's Guardian Angels for their unfailing support in his final days. They also want to especially thank the staff at the VA hospital - he couldn't have had more loving care.. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Bobby Jack Hickey Jr. AmVets Scholarship Fund to help children of veterans achieve their college dreams.
