About | Janie Griffith Riley, ARLEN’s wife, told us.....”Arlen and I married September 9, 1975 in Lubbock and moved from there to Monahans and then Hobbs. Later we were in Lubbock, Spring, and finally in Midland. Arlen worked for Baker Oil Treating Chemicals at the time of his death. He was regional manager for them. He died of liver cancer on April 4, 1986 after a very short illness. We have two children: Chad Griffith and Lara Griffith Cooper. Chad is 25 years old and is attending Texas Tech, his Dad’s alma mater. (Arlen would be proud that one of his children chose to go there.) Lara, 23, graduated SWT, married Jared Cooper, and they are living in San Angelo. She is an escrow agent, and he is a golf pro and manager of one of the courses there. (Arlen would love the fact that there is a Golf Pro in the family since he loved golf.) There are no grandchildren as yet! Arlen’s dad passed away in 1991 and his mother lives at Lake Leon. We see her often. She is 87 now and doing well. She is very much a part of our family. I remarried in 1991 to Ken Riley, and we live in Midland. Our phone number is 432-686-0150. I would welcome any calls from old school friends of Arlen’s. Arlen loved life and his Tech Red Raiders. The children remember him watching them on television and going to the games. He was very much the outdoor type and loved golf and fishing. He never got to do enough of either. I remember his concern for others and wanting to help the underdog. He loved his family and his pets. He touched many lives and changed a few along the way. I pray that if you knew him, you will have fond memories of him and remember his laugh and smile.” |
