Joe Homer Obituary

Graduation Year Class of 1965
Date of Passing Feb 28, 1988
About Former classmate JOE HOMER passed away on February 28, 1988. He left behind his wife, Melita, their two sons, Joe Matthew and Luke, and his two step children, Stephen and Bonnie.

Greg Hellinghausen shared the following memories of Joey………Joey loved life and he loved being a father and husband. He also enjoyed welding, driving trucks, and being a “seat of the pants engineer”. He loved the outdoors, especially ranching. He raised and bred his own cattle on the family ranch located in the mountains outside of Albion, Oklahoma. He affectionately named his bull “Bully”. While visiting Joey and his family on the ranch, it was obvious that he was in his element. During the visits with him, I was reminded of the time when we were kids that we had collected a few rattlesnakes and kept them in a large aquarium on his back porch. After school one day we noticed someone had broken the glass and all the rattlers had escaped. After we collected all that we could in the high grass of his back yard, Joey just cranked up the lawn mower and found the rest.

There was always something about Joey’s baby-face grin that gave me a feeling of peace when I saw it. It made no difference what commotion was going on around us, he would smile and all was well. He still had that grin as he got older, and he seemed to be exactly where he wanted to be, with the family he wanted to be with. However, Joey’s sister, Tina, shared that Joey would also have loved to have just been a Cajun down in Louisiana, eating all that stuff that Cajuns eat.
