Karl Shelton, Jr. Obituary

Graduation Year Class of 1965
Date of Passing Feb 28, 1990
About KARL SHELTON, JR. passed away February 28, 1990. Deleese Shelton Brock, Karl’s sister, shared her memories of him with us. “Family and close friends knew him as Jr. He was my big brother, my hero, my protector. I was asked to tell you something about him that you might not know. Let's see...everyone knew he was very intelligent, a talented saxophone player, a thespian, mathematical genius, skilled debater, and all around nice guy. What you might not know is that he was a loving uncle to my two children, a devoted son, a cherished friend to many, and the best big brother any sister could ever hope to have.

He was funny, with a wonderful quick wit. He enjoyed playing card and board games and always made them fun. He loved to travel and enjoyed history. He was creative and wrote many beautiful poems. He was a talented water color artist and, although he didn't paint many, the ones he did are beautiful. He was proud of his home in Houston and enjoyed being the ultimate Do-it-yourselfer. Jr. had a Master's Degree in Accounting from UT and worked as an accountant. He learned to clog and danced with a group in Houston.

It's much harder for me to try and tell you something he couldn't do, because it always seemed to me that he could do anything and everything. He was a wonderful, honest, loyal and patriotic man who loved his family, friends, and country. He was ALWAYS there for me, and I miss him very much. We shared a special bond that only a brother and sister can share. Although he didn't always approve of my decisions, he would always support them. One more thing; although he was somewhat impatient at times with people, he was non judgmental and compassionate. He didn't die alone. I was holding his hand.”
