About David Ray Shafer (1955 - 2010)

David Ray Shafer, age 54, of Niceville, Fla., died April 11, 2010, after a long battle with ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Hye Kyong Shafer; his mother, Mary Shafer; three brothers, Billy-Jack Shafer, Larry Shafer and Charlie Shafer; his sisters, Peggy Hall, Linda Rashell and Paula Webb; and his son, Timothy Shafer. Mr. Shafer was preceded in death by a daughter, Carmen Shafer; and his father; Herbert Shafer.
Mr. Shafer was born on Dec. 16, 1955, in Dallas. After completing high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force in July 1975, serving proudly in assignments at Virginia, Germany, New Mexico, South Korea, Guam, Louisiana, Okinawa and Florida, retiring as a master sergeant at Eglin Air Force Base in May 2000. After retirement, Mr. Shafer continued supporting Eglin Air Force Base activities as a civilian contractor. He was a resident of Northwest Florida for many years, and was a faithful member of Rocky Bayou Baptist Church.
The family will welcome friends during a visitation at Rocky Bayou Baptist Church on Friday, April 16, from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at the church on Friday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Heritage Gardens Cemetery.
