About | Obituaries in Austin, TX | Austin American-Statesman Patricia La Marr Jones Teed Listen to this obituary All Faiths Funeral Home Obituary Send Flowers Patricia La Marr Jones Teed Austin - Patricia La Marr Jones Teed died in Austin, Texas, on July 22nd, at the age of 80. Born in Pampa, Texas, on November 29, 1940, she was the daughter of Clifford F. Jones and Mary La Marr Abbott Jones, both of whom who preceded her in death. Dr. Teed grew up in Pampa where she graduated salutatorian from Pampa High School in 1958. She attended Rice University in Houston, Texas, where she received her BA cum laude in French literature in 1962 and was named one of ten outstanding seniors. She earned a Master of Arts in French literature from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1963, and spent the following year on a Fulbright fellowship to Grenoble, France. In 1966, she married the late John Edson Teed in Houston, Texas. Their son Arthur was born the following year. She returned to Rice University for doctoral studies and received her Ph.D. in French literature in 1971. After working for five years at The Crispin Company in Houston, Dr. Teed joined the staff of the University of Houston main campus in 1975. She rose through the ranks to become Assistant Chancellor in 1981. In 1984 she left Houston to become Vice President for University Affairs at Stony Brook University in New York. In 1990 Dr. Teed retired from university administration and moved to Austin, Texas to be closer to family. In 1991 she accepted a position as Assistant Director at The Texas Union on the University of Texas at Austin campus, where she remained until she retired permanently in 2006. During her career, she actively supported educational and cultural activities, working with the Alliance Française de Houston and the French Scientific and Cultural Attaché. For her service, the French government awarded her the Palmes Academiques in 1979. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Mia Teed, Houston TX, three grandchildren—Major, Royal and Campbell Teed--and her feline family: Logan and SoBe.
