About Jonathan Fred Smith

Jonathan Fred Smith, 48, of Sherman entered into his eternal home on Wednesday morning, September 18, 2013. He died of a heart attack following a long struggle with diaabtes.Jonathan was born January 14, 1965, and lived in Sherman all his life, except for a few years when he lived in the Dallas area and in Colorado. Jonathan grew up at First Baptist Church, where he was a member, but after returning from Colorado attended Merriman Hills Baptist Church where his brother-in-law is pastor. He attended Crutchfield and Piner schools, and graduated from Sherman High School in 1984, after taking a year off for a life and death battle with cancer. He was a member of the Texas State Guard, and worked at Winns, Chick-fil-A, Subway and Kinkos. While working at Chick-fil-A, he received the “Second Mile” award and scholarship from that corporation.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his father, Joe Elton Smith, and his grandparents, Joe and Mary Smith and Fred and Lillian Dea. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Joe (Ann) Smith, Sherman; sisters: Mrs. Mike (Glenda) Perry, and Lillian Smith of Sherman, and Mrs. Perry (Stephanie) Switzer, of The Colony; brother: Daniel Smith of Austin; nieces Jacqueline Reader of Dallas, Alyssa Switzer of The Colony; Virginia, Victoria and Angela Perry of Sherman and nephews Will Perry of Fort Worth and Andrew Perry of Sherman, and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins..
Family night visitation will be Friday from 6 to 7 at Dannel Funeral Home, and services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Merriman Hills Baptist Church, pastor Mike Perry officiating. Burial will be at West Hill Cemetery. Will and Andrew Perry, Dan, Billy, Johnny, and Jerry Smith, Perry Switzer and Mark Bryant will act as pallbearers.
