About | In Memory of Jimmy E. Hamilton 1943 - 2018 Obituary of Jimmy Hamilton Funeral services for Jimmy E. Hamilton, 75, of Arp will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in the Cottle Funeral Home Chapel, Troup. Burial with Military Honors will be in Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup. Mr. Hamilton passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at his residence. He was born June 14, 1943 in Troup to the late Clifton Earl and Gladys Frances Tennison Hamilton and lived most all his life in the East Texas area. He graduated in 1961 from Troup High School, where he was voted most handsome, most popular and he was an All -Star football player. He is a veteran of the US Army and served in the Vietnam War, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star Service Star, the CIB AAC Medal, the Parachutist Badge, the Sharpshooters (Rifle) Badge, the Sharpshooters (Pistol) Badge and the Purple Heart. He married Margaret Ann Beaty November 1, 1969 in Dallas. He worked in maintenance and quality control in the construction business. He enjoyed nature and being outside and he lived much of his life on his land he cleared, where he enjoyed gardening and his fruit trees. Besides his parents, Jimmy was also preceded in death by his son, John Kevin Hamilton-Hanifin, his brother, Bobby Hamilton, and a brother-in-law, Dean Martin. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Margaret Hamilton of Arp; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Sonya Hamilton of Troup; and; two daughters and a son-in-law, Amy Lyn and Joshua Farmer of Palm Harbor, Florida, and Amanda Victoria Hamilton and her significant other, Michael Chase of Santa Rosa, California; five sisters, and their spouses, Ann Martin of Troup, Linda and Dean Thorne of Lake Tyler, Debbie and Mike Morris of Whitehouse, Wanda and Danny Gallegly of Troup, Rhonda You of Troup; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Debbie Hamilton of Canton; sister-in-law, Mary Deck of Whitehouse; four grandchildren, Brooke Hamilton-Hight and husband Brent, J. K. Hamilton, Jr., Nathan Wiley, and Jacob Farmer; two great grandchildren, Emma Hamilton and Easton Hight; and numerous nieces and nephew. Pallbearers will be Stanley Thurman, Danny Gallegly, Joshua Farmer, J. K. Hamilton, Nathan Wiley and Trenton Steele. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Farmer, Mike Hamilton, Michael Chase, Dean Throne and Jerry Don Dicky. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, October 17, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, prior to service.
