About Barbara Jean Poindexter, 66, died on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at the Center for Acute Hospice Care of the Piedmont, after a lengthy battle with Acute Parkinson Disease.

She was born on January 18, 1951, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the late William Poindexter and Robenette T. Poindexter (June 2017).

Barbara was a graduate of Albemarle High School and received her BS degree from Virginia State University in Art. Barbara was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a past president of the Charlottesville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Barbara was a member of Mt Amos Baptist Church in Free Union, Virginia where she was baptized at an early age and was the financial clerk; Barbara was a very spiritual person and a loving child of God.

After graduating from Virginia State University, she was hired at Albemarle High School to teach Art with Mr. Waldo Johnson who also taught her Art when she was a student. Barbara later moved from Albemarle High School to Fluvanna Junior High where she taught Art and was asked to draw the logo in the old gym for the "Flying Flucos". She also taught at Hensley Middle School for many years until she retired in order to take care of her mother. You could always find Barbara reading a good book, doing crossword or a "Seek a Word" book as a pastime. Her love was being outdoors and mowing the lawn at her home or at her at her mother's home.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Constance "Connie" E. White and her husband, Henry; a brother, William A Poindexter and his wife, Lisa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
