Robert had the Bethel High School discus record for years, was ranked #3 in the discus, in Virginia, in 1974, & was awarded a 1974 Track scholarship to, and was a graduate of, Virginia Tech, in 1978. He was a State of Virginia , College discus and Hammer Champion, in 1976 & 1978, respectively, and held the Virginia Tech University Record in the 16 lb. Hammer throw, in 1978. Robert hurled the 16 lb Hammer nearly 200' , winning many Track meets, in that event. While only weighing about 205 lbs, Robert was not only very strong, he was fast. At 200 lbs he could run a 10.5 sec. 100 yards dash. Robert became a "Master" of technique, in the Discus and Hammer events. Robert qualified for the Division 1 College National Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in 1978. He worked and lived in Colorado until he passed away in 2010 leaving family and his many friends grieving for a dear friend, and a very intelligent, kind, happy, unique and talented person. Robert was fluent in the German language, having lived in W. Germany as a child. He is survived by his parents, a brother and sister, his wife, Kathy, his step children and everyone who knew Robert during his many travels in life. |
