Daniel Rhodes Holliman, 52, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, April 20, 2008. A dedicated physician and research scientist, former captain in the United States Army Medical Corps, devoted son, husband and father. Formerly in medical practice in Radford, Va., he exemplified the highest standard of compassionate bedside care for the whole person. He was passionate about the art of medicine. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Denise Holliman, of Christiansburg; daughter, Margaret Clare Holliman; son, William Michael Holliman, of Radford; mother, Mary C. Holliman, of Blacksburg; father, Rhodes Burns Holliman, of Dublin; brother, C. James Holliman, of Hershey, Pa.; sister-in-law, Karen Holliman; stepmother, Phyllis Ann Holliman; aunts, Ruth Leota Blankenship, of Lewisburg, Pa., and Cecile Youngblood, of Alabaster, Ala.; two stepdaughters, Lisong Danielle Wagner and Lingere Danita Goddard; stepgrandchildren, Donivan and Liliana Wagner; close friends, Michael Dye, of Birmingham, Ala., and Dallas and Denise Dye, of Blacksburg; and many cousins in Alabama, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Instead of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to the Mental Health Association of the New River Valley, 303 Church Street, Blacksburg, Va. 24060.
