About Danny Ray Huffman of Blacksburg, Virginia, born the 14th of May, 1948, died on Sunday, the 26th of April 2015, at the age of 66. He is preceded in death by his parents, Viola Virginia Lovern Huffman and Arthur Lee Huffman of Blacksburg, and his grandparents, Albert Johnson Huffman and Lula Bell Sarver Huffman of Craig County, and Matthew Lee Lovern and Gaynie Ann Sweeney Lovern of Blacksburg. He was graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1966 and then received his Bachelor of Science, his Bachelor of Arts, and his Masters degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Danny served in the United States Army in Hanau, Germany from 1970 to 1972. He taught English at Blacksburg Middle School from 1976 to 1983 and then at Blacksburg High School from 1983 until his retirement in 2006. Danny’s pride and joy were his family and dear friends. Danny loved his family and had a passion for studying and researching the ancestry lines of his family and his friends. He served as Registrar of the Fincastle Resolution of the Sons of the American Revolution and was a lifetime member of the Craig County Historical Society. He was a member of the Blacksburg Retired Teachers group. Danny was an active member of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church, a member of the Monday Men’s Bible Study group, and the Emmaus community. He enjoyed lively and thought-provoking theological discussions with his Koinonia Sunday School Class. Danny enjoyed his garden and loved shopping for statues and deer resistant plants. The landscape of his home demonstrates his expertise in lawn design. He used historical colonial architecture to base his home and garden designs. Among his passion and joy was teaching. He had a traditional and classic approach to literature and design. His enthusiasm and knowledge in his field showed in each lesson he taught. His goodness and loyalty was evident in his unshakeable friendships. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Rodes Huffman, his daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Lisa) Dobbins and her husband Todd Jackson Dobbins, his son, Johns Matthew Rodes Huffman and his fiancé, Lillie Dawn Robinson; his grandsons, Easton Jackson Dobbins, and Archer Rodes Dobbins. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters; Audrey Lee Huffman and his wife, Sue of Christiansburg, Donald Arthur Huffman and his wife, Joanne of Christiansburg, Linda Huffman Phillips and her husband Hoyt of Blacksburg, Wanda Huffman Wright and her husband James of Weyers Cave, Virginia, and an uncle, Clifford William Lovern of Christiansburg and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Danny was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Members of the family will receive family and friends at McCoy Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 28, from 5-7 pm. A service celebrating Danny’s life will be held Wednesday, April 29, at 3 pm in the sanctuary of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church at 111 Church Street.
