A Poem by Sue Kern Maggie with the Laughing Eyes Memories, fragile as butterfly wings Illusive, as all gentle things Fluttering round us just out of reach, Across a chasm we shall never breech, Laughter floating into the deep azure skies, Reminds us of Maggie with the laughing eyes. In the gathering mist of the waning evenings light, In this soft and tender August summers night; She moves quietly amidst our circle of friends, Lighter than a whisper carried upon the winds, A gentle presence among the smiles, tears and sighs, We remember Maggie with the laughing eyes. Goodbye, our sweet Took, for we see where your destiny lies, Gods added your star to the twinkling night skies, An angel looking down on us from Heaven benign, Gracing our gatherings in Gods gentle design, Come laugh with us one more time as the last ember dies, Goodbye, Sweet Maggie with the laughing eyes. |
