About | Edward Norman Obituary Father, Citizen, Soldier "Never take counsel of your fears." - Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson Edward Craig Norman was born on September 29, 1947, in Tacoma, WA to the late Edward Jack Norman and the late Jane Teel Norman. He attended George Mason Junior High School and George Mason Senior High School in Falls Church, VA. In his youth, he worked at his father's hardware store in Arlington, VA, played football (against his mother's wishes), and briefly worked as a fashion model thanks to his 6'4" frame. He married Linda Crowder Norman on June 16, 1979, in the Post Chapel at Camp Pendleton in Virginia Beach, VA. He later graduated from the University of the State of New York, Albany, NY and the United States (U.S.) Army War College. Over the course of his life, he also made homes in Richmond, VA, Fairfax, VA, Carlisle, PA, Fort Leavenworth, KS, and Chesapeake, VA. He enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1966, completing Officer Candidate School and receiving his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant, Infantry in June of 1969. Over a 33-year military career, he served in the 6th Battalion 111th Artillery ("First Virginia Artillery"), 3rd Battalion 116th Infantry, Headquarters Virginia Army National Guard, U.S. Army Forces Command, Department of the Army, 29th Infantry Division, G3, as well as the National Guard Bureau, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, Joint Chiefs of Staff, J5, and the Joint Forces Command, J5. He retired as a Colonel on June 30, 1999. He continued his service as a private sector defense consultant and a volunteer and board member of the 116th Infantry Foundation, Inc. and 29th Infantry Division Museum, National Guard Association of the U.S. Craig passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the age of 74 in Chesapeake, VA, lovingly surrounded by family, after a 16-month battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Linda Crowder Norman (Chesapeake, VA), his brother, Frederick Rollin Norman and his wife, Katherine Baker Norman (Chesterfield, VA), his daughter, Kara Teel Norman (Norfolk, VA), his daughter, Megan Elizabeth Snider and her husband, Randall E. Snider (Chesapeake, VA), and his four grandchildren, Elizabeth June Snider, Mackenzy Paige Hill, Alexandra Lee Hill, and Arik Edward Snider. His service, a full military memorial with honors, will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Albert H. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
