| About | Patricia Anne Pickett passed away at Inova Loudoun Hospital on February 16, 2026. She had been very ill for the past six years. Patricia was born in Loudoun County Hospital on February 20, 1957 to Albert and Catharine Pickett. Patricia was preceded in death by both parents. She was baptized on March 10, 1957 in the 100 year-old, original Catholic church on Pine Street in Herndon. She is survived by one sister, Mary Pickett Rizzo, and her husband, Gary, of Herndon; two nephews: Michael and Joseph Rizzo and their spouses, Megan and Amanda, respectively. Beloved great-nieces and great-nephews also survive their great-aunt. Patricia is further survived by Willow-the-Wisp, the one remaining (18-year-old) feline of Patricia‘s original eight-cat family. Patricia graduated from Herndon High School in 1975 and from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in 1979 with high honors. She entered federal employment in the same year, whereby commenced a very successful career with the Department of State. Her overseas assignments included Belgium, the UK and Austria. After Patricia‘s retirement, she continued to work as a contractor/instructor. She trained many young foreign service employees in preparation for their own international positions. Patricia was a highly-skilled writer and authored many works for both business and personal enjoyment. Her copious note-taking and attention to detail were remarkable. She had completed a manuscript for a mystery novel, as yet unpublished. Patricia called Herndon her home until 2005 when she relocated to Leesburg. There she enjoyed her retirement until 2020 when her mobility became increasingly challenged. Her decline was steady and yet Patricia fought fiercely to maintain her independence. She loved the home she had created, overlooking the beauty of the Potomac and its environs. Patricia encouraged others to save money by investing in terra firma! Real estate was, indeed, her passion. Patricia shall be deeply missed, yet now she is spiritually and forever freed from the restraints and suffering of her disability. Interment will be private as arranged by Adams-Green Funeral Home at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon on March 5. Father Dominic Sameera of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church shall preside. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 18th at 12:00 noon at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church,101 Oakcrest Manor Dr NE, Leesburg, VA 20176 with Fr. Michael Kelly officiating. |
