Anne Cundiff Brown Obituary (1943 - 2023)

Graduation Year Class of 1961
Date of Birth Oct 13, 1943
Date of Passing Sep 11, 2023
About Ann Cundiff Brown, lovingly known as “Ann B”, passed peacefully on September 11, 2023. Ann’s love for her family, friends, and the Virginia Tech Hokies will forever live on through all those that loved her. They will continue to honor her legacy by celebrating her life and all the things she loved and cherished.

The eldest of Bill and Mickey Cundiff, Ann was born on October 13, 1943 in Roanoke, VA. She enjoyed her small town upbringing in Vinton and though she loved to travel and experience new places, she never wanted to live anywhere else. William Byrd High School is where she would meet many of her closest friends as well as Steve Brown- her high school sweetheart. Ann and Steve would go on to marry and have two daughters, Stephanie and Stacie.

Ann attended Madison College (JMU) and followed in her mother’s footsteps to become a teacher. Teaching was not only her vocation but her passion, particularly teaching middle school Civics. She absolutely loved it and her students. All these years later, it’s not uncommon for old students to share with us beautiful stories of the impact she had on their lives. They could always feel her genuine love, faith, and dedication.

As Roanoke County Schools offered early retirement, Ann begrudgingly obliged. It didn’t take her long to settle into her newfound freedom. She filled her time shopping, eating out, traveling, cheering on Hokie Football, and being with her family and friends. She never let a lot of grass grow under her feet. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandsons- Aiden and Dawson Brinkley. Forever proud of them, she went to all of their school events, games, swim meets and dance competitions to support them with a smile on her face.

She is survived by Steve Brown, her daughters Stephanie Brown Mead (Blain) and Stacie Brinkley (Todd), her grandsons Aiden and Dawson Brinkley, her step grandsons Benjamin, Anthony (Kelly) and Jonathon Mead, her sisters Jackie Logan and Billie Sue Musselwhite (Steve), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

We’d like to give a special thank you to Tamra Noble and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for taking such loving care of her. Nita Echols and Billie Sue and Steve came by weekly to bring lunch or a sweet treat (which they knew she would love) or to just spend time with her. We know she loved that and the family did too. She appreciated all the cards from her Thrasher United Methodist Church family and dear friends, as well as the well wishes and prayers over the years from all who loved her.

We will have a “Celebration of Life” on Saturday, October 7th from 11:30am-1:30pm in the Fellowship Hall/Gymnasium at Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Young Life Roanoke- William Byrd High School (5401 Fallowater Ln #D Roanoke, Va 24018) and/or Life Ring Foundation- Fighting Kids Cancer Campaign (PO Box 18168 Roanoke, Va 24014) in Memory of Ann Brown.

She will be dearly missed, always remembered and forever loved.
