About | Brent L. Joly was born in Yakima, WA on September 19, 1950 to Betty and Erwin "Hap" Joly. He attended Yakima schools, graduating from Eisenhower High School in 1968. While at Eisenhower, Brent and his twin brother, Kent, organized the first Eisenhower bowling leagues, a precursor to bowling as a sport at Eisenhower. From Eisenhower, Brent attended YVCC for two years after which he transferred to CWU majoring in History with a minor in Business Administration. During his time at college, he worked part-time for Hahn Truck Company and later moved to the parts department at Hahn Motor Company where he later became parts manager. His parts experience spanned a 35 year career with local dealerships where he was well-known, admired and respected for his "old school" attitude of customer service. His last employment was at Wal-Mart in the Garden Center where he was able to enjoy and share his love of plants and gardening. At the time of his passing he was on a medical leave of absence due to health problems. Brent was an avid and accomplished bowler from the time he was big enough to lift and throw a bowling ball. Bowling was one of his family's passions and much great family time was spent at the bowling alleys. He and his family and friends were involved in many leagues and traveled over a long period of time to numerous bowling tournaments. As secretary of the Yakima Men's Bowling Association, he and his brother Kent attended a National Tournament in Reno, NV, in the spring of 1984. Brent was also an avid golfer and spent many enjoyable hours on the links with his father and many other friends. He enjoyed reading, especially books pertaining to biographies and his never-ending love of history. Along with his love of history, Brent was also interested in genealogy since his ancestors, the Armstrongs, settled parts of Ahtanum. Brent researched this branch of his family tree until he gathered enough information and documentation to obtain Pioneer Certificates for many of his family members. On July 21, 1984, the former college sweethearts Brent and Susan (Sue) Ingalsbe were married at the H.M. Gilbert Homeplace in a lovely and charming garden ceremony. Not long after their marriage, the couple joined the then First Christian Church where they met others with whom they developed many treasured friendships and memories. Both served in the position of Dioconi. The couple developed many hobbies and interests together including the study and true love of plants and gardening. They enjoyed cooking together and happily poured over recipe books for new inspiration. Brent also greatly encouraged Sue in her pursuits and endeavors. He became Sue's "color man" in her many sewing adventures, always instinctively choosing perfect color combinations. Brent will be so fondly and lovingly remembered in so many numerous and positive ways to countless people. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a beautiful intellect, and a kind and gentle spirit. He was a devoted care-giver to many. He taught Sue so many important and great things about life through his love and dedication to her. Brent was preceded in death by his older brother Mike in July of 1991; his mother Betty in 1994; and his father Hap in 1995. It would be remiss not to mention here the couple's first little poodle, Whiskers, who was an important part of their family for 19 1/2 years. Brent is survived by his wife, Sue, of nearly 27 years; his sister, Ronda Campbell; his twin brother, Kent and wife Sallie; and his sister-in-law Oma Sue Joly; his Aunt Mary and Uncle Ron Home of Mt. Lake Terrace, several nieces, a nephew, two grand-nieces and cousins. He is also survived by his two little buddies Alexander and Miss Lily Mae, the couple's tiny poodles. There will be a celebration of Brent's Life on Saturday April 23rd, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at United Christian Church, 317 S. 41st Street, Yakima, WA. He will be inurned at Terrace Heights Memorial Park next to his beloved parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Christian Church or the Yakima Chapter of Humane Society for food, blankets, medical care, or adoptions. Memorials may be made through Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors. BJ, you have given so much to so many and I am so proud of you. One day, when the time is at hand, we will be together again. The promise of Jeremiah 29:11-14 I know to be so true. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord; plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you a hope and a future." |
