About | NOTE: May not have graduated from Ike but attended at some point in time. ******* Brian J. McKenna, of Yakima, passed away September 13th, 2017 at the age of 58, surrounded by family. Brian was born September 24th, 1958 in Tachikawa, Japan to Barbara and John McKenna on the United States Air Force Base. Brian attended Nob Hill Elementary, Wilson Junior High, and Eisenhower High School along with his three brothers. Growing up in a wrestling family, Brian followed in his brother’s footsteps and wrestled in junior high. He was also a master at the foosball table -- and noted as one of the best in the valley! He attended the World Championship Tournament for foosball as a teenager and competed against some of the best around. Cooking was Brian’s forte and passion. He was a chef at many high-end restaurants in Seattle. He was the “go-to” person for cooking big dinners and had the tips and tricks to make the perfect turkey for Thanksgiving, prime rib for the family, or even the best Snickerdoodle cookies for the crew at McKenna Motors! Brian was a big fan of the Seahawks and the Mariners. He would keep everyone up to date on the latest scores, stats, and trades in both of the sports. Brian also enjoyed water skiing and boating with the family up at Vantage and helping out at his brother’s car lot. He kept an eye out at McKenna Motors, making sure the building and the cars were in tip-top shape. Brian was always willing to lend a helping hand to any family or friend that needed it. Brian seized the opportunity to travel the world extensively with his companion of 25 years, Nancy. They enjoyed many cruises and traveled to China, Vietnam, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Alaska, and even to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower! Brian and Nancy would always come back with an abundance of pictures showing their many different destinations. Brian is survived by his longtime companion, Nancy Tikka of Lynnwood and his two daughters, Jessica McKenna of Camano Island, and Lacey LaPierre and his four grandchildren of Spokane. He is also survived by his three brothers, Steve (Julie) McKenna, Terry McKenna, and Mark (Karen) McKenna, all of Yakima, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and one nephew. He is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara McKenna and his father, John McKenna. Brian was a very giving and caring soul with a heart of gold and his presence will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at Keith and Keith Funeral Home at 902 W. Yakima Avenue on Thursday September 21st, 2017 at 2 PM. Yakima Herald Republic, Yakima, WA September 15, 2017 |
