About | Douglas A. "Duffy" Deaver, was called home in the early hours of the morning on Monday, January 23, 2023. With Mom holding his hand, he knew it was time that he be reunited with his son, Doug, who had gone before him 11 years earlier. Duffy was born April 30, 1943, to Archie and Hallie Deaver, in Yakima, Washington, where he spent the majority of his life. When he lost his own father at the age of 12, Duffy became the man of the house. His mom later married Albert Golob, and the family moved to Sunnyside, Washington. Duffy was a star athlete. He was an ice dancer in his early teens, but football was his passion. He played football in Sunnyside, Washington through his junior year, then transferred to Eisenhower for his senior year. He graduated from high school in 1961 with a full ride athletic scholarship to play football at Weber State, in Ogden, Utah. It was at their Snow Ball dance that he stood on stage and announced to everyone that he'd found the love of his life, Barbara Scoville, and he was going to marry that girl! Duffy and Barbara were married April 30, 1963, so Dad would never forget their anniversary, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. Dad continued to play ball and attend school. During a practice scrimmage, he was hit from the side and blew out his right knee. Even in a cast from hip to ankle, when deer season opened, he was out hunting, and when he got his deer, ran across the field to get to it. While in Utah, Duffy and Barbara welcomed a daughter, Tracy, and son, Doug. Now a father, Dad had to make sure his family came first, and that meant working a lot. He held many jobs while in school and even after. He worked at Armstrong Sporting Goods, a gas station, and the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. He also worked on the Cutrubus Cattle and Sheep Ranch in Huntsville, Utah. In 1969, the family moved from Utah to Grandview, Washington, so Dad could help his stepfather, Al Golob, in his cattle hauling business, the Midnight Express. In 1970, the family was in Prosser, Washington, where they welcomed a third baby, daughter, Mickie. In April 1974, the family moved to Lombard Loop, Wapato, Washington, where Dad ran Valley Roz I for Hansen Fruit. He was there until 1988, when he went to work for Muffet and Sons Irrigation, which became Wilson Irrigation. Dad worked for Wilson's until his retirement in April 2017. Dad instilled in all his kids a great work ethic and he was an awesome example as a father and husband, for which we will be eternally grateful! Dad made sure his kids got to experience lots of fun times. We would go four-wheeling, water-skiing, and he loved having a semi-permanent residence at Silver Beach on Rimrock Lake. In his later years, he loved to play golf (he even got a hole in one) and going fishing with his best friends, Arlin, Steve, and Jack, on Lake Roosevelt, Lake Rife, and at Underwood. Duffy is preceded by his son, Douglas, who passed in December 2012. Duffy is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughters, Tracy (Donn) Brookes, and Micke (Jason) Hoffert, his beloved daughter-in-law, Ange Deaver, grandchildren, Kelsey Brookes (Dominic) Mason, Charlie (Melissa) Brookes, Sheena Hoffert, Ty Hoffert, and Hallie Hoffert, Casey (Skye) Deaver, and Alex Deaver, great-grandchildren, Cami Jorgensen, Shelby Mason, Ian Mason, Leila Brookes, Layne Hoffert, Azalia, and Isabelle Deaver. There are two more great granddaughters due in June 2023, who we're sure are getting great-grampa time until then. A Memorial Service will be held in early May 2023. Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.brooksidefuneral.com. |
