About | Our dear brother, Doug, passed away the morning of February 19, 2019 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born June 25, 1943. He grew up in Yakima and attended Eisenhower high school. As a youth he had great interest in cars. He was an excellent artist and drew some new car designs similar to cars that came out some years later. He got a Model A when he was 14 and rebuilt it to working condition by the time he was 16. Right after high school graduation he moved to Seattle for a brief time before moving to southern California. There he had four children and one step child whose mother was not around much to care for them. During most of his adult life he was a political activist and an avid reader of both politics and history. He struggled through many different careers, mostly driving jobs. He eventually married Maria Vandiver and had two more step children. Doug loved kids and was a good Dad! In recent years he came down with Parkinson’s, and for the last year and a half was taken home to live with his daughter, Rosalie, where he was cared for very well. He was well loved by his family. He was predeceased by his wife, Maria, and his parents, Bruce and Betty Layfield. He is survived by sister, Linda Layfield (Roger Severson), brother, Don Layfield and sister, Diann Rockstrom (Ron). He is also survived by his four children, three step children, 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Memorial will be held in southern California at a later date. |
