About | Mrs. Edna V Bailey died Feb. 13, 2018. She was born May 3, 1920 in Bates, South Dakota to Wesley I. and Martha A (Hanks) Miller. In 1936, she moved to Yakima, WA with her family and graduated from Yakima High School in 1937. She graduated from Northwest Nazarene College in 1945. She was a member of the National Ideals-asti Phi Delta Lambda, Zeta Kappa Pho Chapter. She received her Masters degree in Counseling and Guidance in 1960 from Central Washington University and later received her certification as a school psychologist from CWU. She was a recipient of a National Science Foundation Fellowship at Reed College in 1966. She married John C. Bailey, June 7, 1944, in Yakima, WA. Mrs. Bailey was selected to lead two tours throughout Europe, including some communist countries, for the People-to-People’s High School Ambassador Program. Mrs. Bailey was employed by the Yakima Public Schools and was on the original staff of Eisenhower High School. She taught psychology, anthropology, journalism and English before devoting herself full-time to psychological service for the school district. Mrs. Bailey was an active educator and organized the high school teachers of petrology in the state of Washington and served as its president until the group affiliated with the Washington State Psychology Assoc., a member of the Yakima Education Assoc. in which she held several offices and served on numerous committees, the Washington State Education Assoc. (WEA), and NEA. She retired in 1982 after 28 1/2 years of service. She was past-president of the Yakima Branch of American Assoc. of University, twice national delegate and delegate several times to WA State Div., besides many other duties. She belonged to the Women’s Century Club and First Church of the Nazarene. She was an artist in oils and enjoyed people, reading and travel. She also was a community volunteer. Survivors include one brother, Warren Miller, and many grandchildren. At her wish there will not be any services. She requests any memorials be sent to Northwest Nazarene College, Nampa, ID.
