Jim attended Yakima Schools and graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1972. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1976 with a major in History. Following that, he was accepted at Willamette University School of Law and completed two years of law school. In Yakima, he worked as a nurse's aide at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital and as a legal assistant at the law firm of Velikanje, Moore & Shore. On June 27, 1989, he married Cynthia A Garrick in Seaview, WA at Souwester Lodge where they returned every year. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Garrick of Yakima, cousins and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Zeigler.
