About Karen Lee Eitreim Karen Lee Eitreim, 62, of Lacey, WA died Thursday morning, September 28th, 2017 at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA after a short illness. Karen was born to Harold and Margie Eitreim in Yakima, WA. Karen graduated from Eisenhower High School in Yakima, class of 1973. She continued her studies at Washington State University earning both a Bachelor's of Arts in German and English Literature and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. Karen began her educational career in Richland, WA as a German and Literature teacher. She moved to Lacey, WA in 1987 and became an assistant principal at North Thurston High School. She became principal of the school in 1992. Karen moved to the District Office to be a curriculum Director in 2004. She has been working in the areas of policy, discipline, Native American programs, World Languages, ELL, Arts and Music. Karen was wine connoisseur. She enjoyed nature, gardening and animals. Karen loved traveling to distant locations and enjoyed researching family and friend's lineages on Ancestry. Karen was a passionate advocate for student learning and was an active member of many professional organizations to include Washington Association of School Administrators, Association of Washington Principals, and Washington Language Teacher's Association. She was an active member of Rotary International and a committed parishioner of her church. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of United Churches of Olympia, 110 11th Ave SE, Olympia, WA. Reverend Tammy Stampfli officiating.
