About | Note: Photo is from the 1983 yearbook. Katey (Forsberg) Hakes was a remarkable woman who lived a joyful, accomplished life that was cut far too short. She was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up in the beautiful Yakima Valley. Katey graduated from Eisenhower High School with the class of 1985. She studied International Business both at Washington State University and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. She was also a life-long member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She later went on to reside in Boise, Idaho where she raised her family and had a very successful career in both medical and dental sales. Katey was a radiant personality, full of joy and life. She had a brilliant smile and joyful laugh that would brighten any room. The enthusiasm with which she greeted life's challenges was a source of inspiration and admiration. Her compassion for others flowed freely and is nearly unmatched. The people in Katey's life felt her kindness and enthusiasm for helping others. She would often come home at the end of the day and declare how much she loved "her dental assistants" and all the people she worked with in the Boise Dental Community. It wasn't just a job, she truly loved to serve the people she worked with over the years. Outside of work, Katey was adventurous and active and found happiness in her love for tennis. She was an avid player who loved spending time on the courts with her dear friends and teammates over the years. She sought adventure both in the mountains and the beach. Her sacred place for relaxation and fun was McCall, Idaho where she'd often be found indulging her interests in nature photography. She loved to boat on Payette Lake, hike strenuous trails to the various high mountain lakes and adored skiing the slopes at Brundage. (She was a gorgeous and graceful skier...) However perhaps more than any other activity -- Katey LOVED attending outdoor concerts with her friends, family and children. There has rarely been a more explicitly, joyful display of human happiness than to have watched Katey dance carefree and sing along to her favorite country songs at these concerts over the years. As a daughter, mother, wife, sister, friend, etc. - Katey showed great passion and commitment in her many roles. Over the years she loved to volunteer as an elementary school art teacher, take her girl scout troops camping and anxiously observed thousands of innings of her son's baseball games. She was a respected confidant in all of these diverse roles, and people sought her advice and feedback in business, personal relationships and parenting. She had a keen eye for cutting through the drama, giving it to you straight, and helping bring forward the best in everyone. Katey joins her father Harlen Forsberg, her grandparents and her four-legged companion Diego in Heaven. She leaves behind her loving husband Paul Hakes, her children Gavin Speegle - his wife Marselle - Kameron Speegle, Courtney Hakes and Ben Hakes. She also leaves behind her mother Carol Forsberg, her siblings Jenny and Andy Forsberg, and their families. Katey's enduring spirit will continue to be a beacon of inspiration, happiness and possibility in our lives, and we will forever cherish the lovely memories of her. |
