Kathleen "kathy" (weist) Carner Obituary (1945 - 2024)

Graduation Year Class of 1963
Date of Birth Jul 13, 1945
Date of Passing Apr 13, 2024
About Kathleen Louise Carner 78, died April 13, 2024 peacefully in her home with her family by her side. Kathleen was born July 13, 1945 in Snohomish Washington to Emil and Opal Weist.

On January 2, 1965, she married a box boy named Gene from Super Duper. They made their home and raised their family in Yakima.

"Gram" wore many hats; she worked as a receptionist for Dental Center West, did her husband Gene's masonry books, all while raising their girls. She later worked for Washington State Department of Services for the Blind where she retired after 36 years.

Early years of family camping trips, that involved motorcycle riding filled most weekends. Later years involved watching nearly all of her grandsons and great grandsons ball games. Annual family vacations to Cannon Beach were a must every summer. Her love of yard sales and "junking" was influenced by a dear friend, Marie Dorsett. Many of our trips to Portland Expo and Sellwood were with her good friend Barb Hines. Those outings and trips brought with it many treasures, some ready to use and or sell and some that needed refinishing which she loved to do. She loved anything Victorian and fancy. Her gift of making something out of nothing was prevalent throughout her home. She enjoyed all kinds of music, Luciano Pavarotti being a favorite. The symphony, theatre and movies were all things she enjoyed. Mom loved animals, and had many over the years. Abby her beloved poodle and Rugger her handsome black lab, whom she walked daily.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Gene, two daughters, Leslee Mobley and Cristeen Valicoff & her husband Ric; four grandsons, Coalby Valicoff, Clayson Mobley, Brock Valicoff and Garrett Mobley; one great grandson, Carter Gamache Valicoff; a brother, Ronnie Weist and his wife Neva. A brother-in-law Steve Carner and his wife Sue, and one sister-in-law Patricia Sugden, numerous nieces and nephews and a very dear and long-time friend, Polly Trusley.

She is preceded in death by her parents Emil and Opal Weist and a brother-in-law, Paul Sugden.

Kathleen was a very strong, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved us all fiercely. We never had to look far to find her. We will always cherish our memories with her.

We were able to care for mom at home, which we are very grateful for. We could not have done that without the love and compassion given to her and us by Dr. Syliva Labes, MD., Carmon Haney, Maria Pacheco, Avail Home Nursing and Yakima Memorial Hospice. Their kindness and empathy to our family will never be forgotten.

A family celebration of her life will be held later this summer. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.keithandkeith.com for the Carner family.
