About On May 23, 2017, Dr. Mark D. Groven lost his battle against Amyloidosis at age 62. Born October 23, 1954 in Grafton, N.D., he was the oldest child of Marilyn DeWitz, Portland, Or. and the late Gordon Groven of Yakima.

He leaves four children, Molly, Anna, Rachel and Daniel Groven of Kirkland, Wa.; stepfather George DeWitz, a sister, Susan Hingson, a brother, William (Bill) Groven DeWitz of Portland, Or., and stepbrothers Scott DeWitz, Sacramento, Ca., Jeffrey DeWitz and M. Anthony DeWitz of Portland.

Dr. Groven lived in Yakima during his youth, graduated from Eisenhower HS in 1972 and achieved the high honor of Eagle Scout. He completed his undergraduate work at Central Washington University and received his doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in 1991. He went on to complete a postgraduate residency in Physical Medicine. In 1993 he accepted a position as the Department Chair of Physical Medicine for Bastyr University and became the Physical Medicine Department Supervisor in 1995 for The Bastyr Center for Natural Health Outpatient Clinic. Since 2005, Dr. Groven pursued his private practice full time as a Naturopath at the Graham Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Seattle.

Dr. Groven’s favorite things to do were spending time with his four children, being on the golf course, or on the water, and fly fishing. He was an artist in wood working, had a talent for painting with water colors, enjoyed music and occasionally made home brew with his buddies.

Throughout his life, Dr. Groven influenced many with his overwhelming positive and calming energy. He was considered a friend by his patients and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services were held at Holy Family Parish, Kirkland, Wa. in June. A Burial Committal is planned for September 23, 2017 at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland, Or.
