About | Merrissa "Missy" Bernice Davis passed away unexpectedly, in her home, on November 3, 2022, in Yakima, Washington. Merrissa was born in Kettle Falls, Washington, to Theresa Davis and Richard Riesel, on January 17, 1980. She was the oldest of five sisters. Merrissa was raised in Colville, Washington until the family moved to Yakima in 1989. Merrissa graduated from Eisenhower High school in 1998. Shortly after high school, in 1999, she accepted employment as a corrections record technician for the Department of Corrections, eventually becoming Correctional Records Supervisor. During her nearly 24 years there, she developed lifelong friendships with her coworkers, who were like family. Merrissa was fiercely loyal and would do anything possible to protect those she loved. Even though she was only 4'10", she had the heart and fearlessness of someone 6'5". She always put on a brave face but was incredibly empathetic and supportive of other lifestyles. You could always count on her to be there for you with no questions. Merrissa helped care for her twin sisters at a young age, which led to a lifelong love of caring for small children. She truly enjoyed being a mother, grandma, and aunt. Merrissa was incredibly smart, and you could count on her to have a solution to almost any situation. If she couldn't find a solution, you could rely on her sense of humor and quick-witted responses to make you smile no matter the circumstance. Merrissa was known for her love of rock and grunge music, especially Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkin, V.C. Andrews and James Patterson novels, PokemonGO, crime show marathons, and car karaoke dance breakouts. She was also proud of being a dog mom to Rex and Buddha, and enjoyed creating unique nicknames for everyone she was close to. Merrissa is survived by her father, Richard Riesel, and stepmother, Charlene, Grandmother Bernice Davis, daughters, Iris Davis and Taya Manees (Jordan), and son Ezra Ronan, grandchildren Amina and Sage, sisters, Mary (Anthony) Blue, Rose (Matt) Hiller, Allison Gevanni, and Rachel Riesel, and brothers, Johnny Davis and Jeremiah Davis. She is preceded in death by her mother, Theresa Davis, stepfather, Donald Johanns, uncles, Larry, Joe, and Pete, an aunt, Jenny, and lifelong friend, Lee Hubert. A small family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NIAAA and sent in care of Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936), who is caring for the family.
